Kansas City Girl on Real World

February 21st, 2009

sims9It’s season 21 of MTV’s The Real World and yet another Missourian gets to be on it. This time it’s former Miss Teen Missouri and Miss America Teen Devyn Simone Sims. Cast previews would lead you to believe she’s a prissy prude with an attitude. (I’m a poet, did ya know it?) But we’ll see. She’s pretty, that’s for sure. And even though I haven’t watched an episode of the show in years, I remember the prissy prudes who entered the Real World house tended not to leave it that way. We’ll see.

Randy, King or Too Cocky?

February 21st, 2009

randy_gabonTo see CBS’s promos for tonight’s episode of Survivor: Gabon, it looks like our wedding videographer has got the game wrapped up. But a lesson in history tells me his mouth may soon get him in trouble. He has no qualms about saying he hates people or making rude gestures to fellow players…Crystal. And still, the tribe he got switched over to has taken him in like a favorite uncle. They even have plans to betray bow-tied Bob for Randy. I think this will definitely be an interesting episode. Probably a make-or-break one for Randy.

Now This is a David Cook Song

Posted by admin
February 21st, 2009

davidcook“American Idol” winner David Cook’s first release from his upcoming album is on his MySpace page…and it’s good. Every time I hear “Time of My Life” I kind of want to puke a little because it just doesn’t have that rocker edge that you just know David Cook wants to put out. It’s way too TV contesty…something the producers had written in his contract that he had to release, I would guess. So to hear his new single “Light On” makes me a very happy girl. He’s so talented. And you can just tell he likes singing it better, even though it’s not a live version or anything. It’s more like a comfortable feeling you get when you hear someone in their comfort zone. Don’t get me wrong, he sang the other song well. It’s just not him. The self titled album drops (that’s the right lingo, right?) on November 18.

Trista Sutter and Diaper Bags

Posted by admin
February 21st, 2009

I would guess that if anyone had asked Trista Sutter five years ago what she might like to design, diaper bags would probably not have been the answer. Becoming ABC’s first Bachellorette may change you, but becoming a mommy changes you more. Not that I know Trista, she may have wanted to design diaper bags her whole life. Anyway, that’s one of her projects now. And they’re really cute! Trista’s son, Max’s stuff is carried around in style.

Some Contestants Don’t Even Use Reality Experience

February 21st, 2009

Ali Sonoma is the beauty who left the last season of ABC’s The Mole for $30,000 cash. Good call. The 24-year-old is a native of St. Louis. She went to high school in St. Charles. On her official website she doesn’t even list her mole experience. This girl has got so much going on, she doesn’t need to. One such project is the film Say Goodnight, which also filmed in St. Louis. You can see it now on video.

Neal E. Boyd Wins AGT

Posted by Amy Winder
October 2nd, 2008

NBC owes Sikeston’s Neal E. Boyd a million dollars and a show in Vegas. The Opera singer, who moonlights as an insurance salesman, (or something like that) won America’s Got Talent Wednesday night.  After the win, Boyd first cried, of course.  I loved it that host Jerry Springer called him a cry baby.  Takes one to know one Jerry…I love you :)  Then he shouted, “I love you Sikeston, I love you Missouri!”  How nice.  We love you too Neal.  Could you send me some tickets to your Vegas show?

Besides the congratulations from the crowd and judges, Boyd received special messages from opera quartet Il Divo and Placido Domingo. No doubt they’ll all be working the same circles within a couple years.  Your first chance to see Boyd will be October 17th at the MGM Grand.

A Bloody Beginning for Randy

Posted by Amy Winder
September 27th, 2008

Survivor: Gabon’s medical staff got called in quick this season…on the first episode. It was for Eagle Rock, MO native Randy Bailey’s head. The wedding videographer, who claims he doesn’t believe in marriage, got into it with a tree branch in the middle of the night. I think it may’ve been karma disciplining him for orneryness. He got three stitches and stained pants. Hopefully he’ll take it easy walking around in the dark from now on.

Despite the permanent scar on his head, Randy managed to make it through the first two tribal councils without scarring any relationships. He didn’t even come close to getting kicked off. I think he’s playing a smart game so far…keeping his smarty pants comments to himself. If he can hold up physically, he could have a pretty successful game ahead.

Can the Others Beat “Sensational”?

Posted by Amy Winder
September 25th, 2008

That’s the question for Neal E. Boyd.  And that’s the word Sharon Osbourne used to describe him. In Boyd’s final performance before the winner of America’s Got Talent is revealed, he brought all three judges together in agreement.  They love him. He even caused The Hoff and Pierce to high five.  What the heck is that about?  I’d say Sikeston may soon be losing its most talented insurance salesman. Tune in next Wednesday, October 1st to find out who gets the million dollars and a gig in Vegas.

The Birth of A Funny Lady

Posted by Amy Winder
September 19th, 2008

One of the funniest women to ever make it to the House round of Last Comic Standing was born in Aurora. Kristin Key came in 6th on the show. Key has made the rounds at comedy clubs across the nation, including throughout Missouri. The preacher’s kid is a frequent guest on the Bob & Tom radio show. I like her because she’s skinny, but not on purpose.
